Finances

The financial world and economy is undergoing some major changes and shocks. This is manifesting itself with job losses, foreclosures, and the inability of many to pay for healthcare, college, and even groceries.  This is a really tough time for a lot of people, and unfortunately, the odds are strong that it is only going to get worse.  The world, particularly the United States, has lived off of a debt binge, which has created years and years of pseudo-prosperity.  Even other countries that have been more responsible are suffering to a degree because of their trade with the U.S.  Financial trouble is now an issue that most of us will have to deal with one way or the other.  Even if we are fortunate enough to keep our jobs and pay the bills, surely we will know family, friends, or co-workers who are not so fortunate.  This time period will certainly test many of the financial assumptions that we may have previously made.  Perhaps we will not be able to save for retirement because we will need to tap some of that money now.  Perhaps our kids will have to drop out of college because the student loans are going to be too much to bear, if they are even available to begin with.  Perhaps we will not be able to give as easily to the church, and we will struggle with reckoning our desires with our ability.  There is no easy solution for individual families during this time.  However, we should always be evaluating our financial health and stewardship in light of Biblical principles.  God’s Word is true in times of economic prosperity and economic depressions.  Please view the following articles to get God’s view on money, debt, giving, taxes, and more.
